SHERRY TRIFLE by Mo O'Connell - IRL - NOT IN COMPETITION
Picture
"Sherry Trifle" is a short film made with participants of RADE (Recovery through the arts education), a Dublin 8 charity.
Bertha is a street-dwelling heroin addict. She buys a sherry trifle for her mother for her birthday. However, today is her mother's last birthday. Time is ticking and she must get to her mother before 7pm before her mother is taken back to the hospital to die. A number of obstacles get in her way, the trifle is stolen and chaos ensues...
The actors are RADE participants and are recovering from various addictions. Making this film is a part of the healing process for them.

This film was written by Graham Molloy and Mo O'Connell and was presented as an idea to do with RADE participants by Mo O'Connell. On agreeing to do this project, Mo taught workshops in acting twice a week from July 2024.
When working on character backstory work the RADE participants came up with rich and vivid backstories and so, Mo decided to put these into the film itself.
So, they are also credited as writers on the film now also.
It was shot over 15 - 20 separate days throughout 2025 (though the main part of the shoot took place from March 5th to 10th 2025) . The crew are all volunteers.

Conceived and made as part of KinoD International Filmmaking Kabaret's 48 hour film challenge. Considering the plethora of noir films centering around a hard-nosed complex functional alcoholic detective, I thought what about making a film about a dysfunctional alcoholic detective. This Noir spoof charts a turbulent day in the life of seasoned detective Sebastian Sinclair Leroux as he attempts to balance his professional life with his penchant for libation.
