INAUGURAL STAND-UP COMPETITION

FINALISTS

2024

BREDA HEGARTY WoN THE BEST COMEDIAN AWARD

BREDA HEGARTY

Picture

Christened Breda, but referred to by her family as the ‘other one’. Having grown up in the middle of nowhere in West Cork, she remains slightly feral but has learned to communicate through the medium of comedy.

She has performed in many of the top comedy clubs in Ireland and was a finalist in the Louthest Laughs 2024 and Scorthy Smiles 2024.
She has supported and performed alongside many well known acts such as Colin Murphy, Fred Cooke, Killian Sunderman, Emma Doran, John Colleary and many more.
A trained actor, she has played a mad woman, sad woman, abandoned woman and dismayed woman, in hindsight she probably didn’t need the acting classes.
In her stand up Breda shares her hysterical failings as a woman and as a human in general, which will no doubt leave you laughing and squeezing out a little pee, while also making you feel better about your own life!

JAMES JOHN SURGEONER

Picture

James is a Canadian comedian based out of Cork who brings quick jokes and whimsical demeanor to every stage that he's on.

JUSTINE HALPIN

Picture

Justine first dipped her toes into comedy in 2015 when she became a TRYER on one of Ireland's most popular Youtube channels The Try Channel. From trying everything from the world's hottest Doritos to canned squid heads, and entertaining over 1.3 million subscribers on a weekly basis, Justine decided to make a move from online comedy and take it to the stage.

Completing a Stand Up Comedy course in Dublin's Bow Street Academy in 2023, she booked her very first gig. Since then Justine has been gigging all over the city for popular clubs such as Hysteria and the Dublin Comedy Crunch supporting big names such as Neil Delamare and Willie White.

STEPHEN ROBERT-WALTERS

Picture

Stephen Robert-Walters is one of the longest names in Irish comedy. A voice actor by day, a comedian by night, Stephen will do anything in his power to avoid an honest day's work. Performing throughout Ireland, the UK and even the US, Stephen has shared the stage with some heavyweight names on the comedy scene such as Sharon Mannion, Ardal O'Hanlon, Emma Doran and the legendary Mark Thomas.

JACK MCKENNA

Picture
Jack Mc. A High energy comedian who loves Act outs & Impressions.

Jack is a polished comedic performer with a suave, slick and side-splitting style.

His Stand up is a cocktail of impressions, observations & immersive audience interaction. He recently placed in the prestigious Show Me The Funny competition & earned a spot at All Together Now festival 2022. His online work saw him claim the title of Best Sketch at the Dublin International Comedy Festival in 2022 & working with Newscheck. Jack played the youngest Healy- Rae on Callan’s Kicks on RTE in 2021 and was also successfully edited out of an Episode of Fair City he shot in 2016 (He did it for the money).

INTRODUCING OUR

COMEDIANS FOR HEAT 3

FIONA O'MAHONY

Picture

Fiona completed stand up comedy courses at both the Gaiety School of Acting and the Craic Den Comedy club. She started gigging 1 year ago and has gigged in most Dublin Clubs, all over Ireland, NI and the UK. She has been on lineups with Edwin Sammon, Emma Doran and Karl Spain. Fiona performed her 1st work in progress entitled ‘First Confessions’ in Cork (2024) with other venues in the works for September/October.

She recently filmed with RTE for a secret project (ssshhhh). Fiona will be performing in a number of lineups at Edinburgh fringe festival. More notably she has been selected to perform with Funny Women comedy company at the fringe festival and is bursting with excitement. She is excited to meet everyone and take part in the DICFF event! See you there!

FEARGHAL GERAGHTY

Picture

Fearghal is a stand-up comic based in Dublin and has performed in venues in both Ireland and England. His self-deprecating sense of humour tends to upset his Mammy, who thinks he's wonderful and won't hear a bad word said about her son. Outside of stand-up comedy Fearghal is a trained actor and drummer (just don't ask him what shows he's been in). His biggest claim to fame was auditioning for the part of Harry Potter when he was a child and he has had a one-way rivalry with Daniel Radcliffe ever since.

HEIDI STEMP

Picture

With just over a year of stand-up comedy under her belt, Heidi Stemp has already been a finalist in Ireland’s Next Top Comic 2024, the Ha Ha Hawkswell Comedy Award 2024 and Show Me The Funny 2024. She has supported Irish comedians including Deirdre O’Kane, Sharon Mannion, Emma Doran and Kevin McGahern, and has performed all round the country, including this year’s Paddy Power Comedy Festival and at the legendary Comedy Cellar at the International, Dublin - Ireland’s longest running comedy club.

yasha ditkovski

Picture

Yasha Ditkovski has been slinging irreverent witticisms in Dublin since relocating from New York City in 2023. A former writer for illustrious magazines such as Rolling Stone and also cringey ones like FHM, Yasha currently splits his time between full-time parenting and stand up comedy.

PATRICK MCLOUGHLIN

Picture

Winner of the Best New Act Competition 2023, Bray Comedy Festival, this guy's in danger of becoming an icon.

Desperate to be known for more than theatrical sneezes he took up comedy in 2019 and gigs regularly. London, New York, Peking, Mullingar, he’s shared the stage with the best of them. Normally mired in domestic duties of a Thursday night he’s been given a pass for July 25th. The Marigolds are off, the pink ruffles are on.

You be the judge; does he look like every guy your girlfriend tells you not to worry about? Come see the phenomenon for yourself! …and all for a tenner! Just when you think life can’t get better, it does.

LESLY MARTINEZ

Picture

Lesly Martínez is a Cork based Latina comedian from Venezuela. Listen to her adventures and stories of Irish society, love and the struggle to fit in all delivered through her very sexy accent.

Lesly was the winner of The Ballycotton Comedy Festival G.O.A.T Competition in 2022 and was a semi finalist of 'Show Me The Funny' 2023 and So Funny Comedy Festival in Sligo this 2024.She has performed all around Ireland and internationally.

A regular on the Irish Comedy circuit she has supported and performed alongside many well known acts such as Chris Kent, Mike Morgan and many more.

Lesly also was part of the comedy show "Immigration is joke" that toured for 12 Irish counties sharing the stage with other two great comedians, Malinda and NEIl Green.

EVAN ARCHER

Picture

Dubbed (by most likely himself) as the Fresh Prince of Kildare after moving from Cork to Naas, Evan manages to be both a local and blow-in to the Leinster comedy scene.

Going through either a delayed quarter-life or early mid-life crisis, Evan has taken to stand-up comedy to discuss the utter nonsense-ness of life.

Taking very little seriously - especially himself, Evan likes to bring laughs from the absurdity of the little things, his own flaws and a smidgen of imagination.

Described as “mischievous, conversational, and ya-know-what-I-mean-like?” (again, by himself), Evan will be bringing laughs mór agus beag to the DICFF comedy contest!

shawn uyosa

Picture

Shawn Uyosa is a Nigerian born Irish comedian who has been performing stand up comedy since he was 17 years old and has since performed in England and in all the top comedy clubs all over Ireland including Dublin, Galway and Cork.

Shawn won “Ireland’s Best New Act” competition at the Bray Comedy Festival in 2020 and The Comedy Cavern’s “Cork Comedian Of The Year” competition in 2023. Shawn was booked to perform at The PaddyPower Comedy Festival in 2023 featuring Tommy Tiernan and Dara O Briain.

CRAIG MORAN

Picture

Craig is Irish Comedian that started doing stand up late in life at 27, once he began, he never looked back. He is a regular at all the major comedy clubs in Ireland, gigging with the best acts and playing to large international audiences. Craig is co-founder of institches where he can be seen regularly performing and Mcing, 7 nights a week.

Craig is an Anecdotal comedian, telling hilarious stories with act outs that'll have you bursting with laughter! Growing up as the middle child in the family, being the class clown & always wanting to be the center of attention making him perfect for stand up!

SOPHIA WREN

Picture

Annnd 7th up for our DICFF Stand-Up Competition is....

Sophia Wren started performing stand-up comedy just last year and within 12 months she has performed at almost all of Dublin’s clubs including Whelan’s main stage for Funny Women alongside Deirdre O’Kane, opened for top Irish acts such as Stephen Mullan, Emma Doran and Killian Sunderman, won Ireland’s biggest competition, the prestigious ‘Show Me The Funny’, performed her debut WIP in Scene+Heard Festival and was signed to Aviary Talent. warren mARTIN

Picture

Warren Martin is a comedian from Meath who has recently emerged onto the Irish scene and quickly found favour with audiences around the country.
He won the prestigious Clash of the Comics in 2020 (and is still going on about it). He has recently headlined and graced stages in Edinburgh, Dublin and all over Ireland. Warren was recently fired from his job in a warehouse, packing boxes, thanks to his out of the box thinking. He now resides on a park bench in my back garden where he spends his time shouting at my neighbours.

CLAIRE MILLANE

Picture

Claire is an actor and writer originally from Co. Galway. She has written and performed all sorts of comedy down through the years, but more recently she decided to try her hand at stand-up and got bitten by the stand-up bug. She has been hitting the open mic circuit ever since. Last month she did her first UK gig performing in the Angel Comedy Club in London.
